New 2006-200x Catalog GenEd Requirements for EE and CpE:
- The Volgenau School Requriement: at least 24 hours of non-technical course work.
- Fine Arts: (see appropriate pages in Bluebook for approved courses)
- Global Understanding: (see appropriate pages in Bluebook for approved courses)
- HIST 100 or HIST 125 (Western Civilization)
- Oral Communication: COMM 100 (should not be taken until just before or with ECE 492)
- ENGH/ENGL 101
- Literature: (i.e. ENGH/ENGL 2xx)
- ENGH/ENGL 302 (ENGH/ENGL 302 should not be taken until after ECE 280
and 331/332)
- Social Science: ECON 103
- Synthesis Course (ECE 492/493)
- IT: CS 112 (technical aspects) plus ENGR 107 (ethical considerations).
Writing Intensive Requirement: satisfied by ECE 491

- HIST 120 (US History)
- Oral Communication: COMM 100
- ENGL 101
- Literature: (i.e. ENGL 2xx)
- ENGL 302 (ENGL 302 should not be taken until after ECE 280 and 331/332)
- Social Science: ECON 103
- Synthesis Course (ECE 492/493)
- IT: CS 112 (technical aspects) plus ENGR 107 (ethical considerations).
Writing Intensive Requirement: satisfied by ECE 491
How Transfer Students can Meet the GenEd Requirements:
- From a VCCS* institution with AS degree. Must take courses or have specific transfer credit for: ECON 103, COMM 100 and ENGL 302
and have at least 24 hours of non-technical course work by the time they graduate. Note, the NVCC AS degree must be formally
recorded in the student's GMU record prior to the end of the student's first semester at George Mason. Otherwise the student is
considered to *not* have the AS degree and would have to meet all the
specified non-technical course work.
- From a VCCS institution without AS degree. Must satisfy all published BSEE and BSCpE Gen Ed requirements with transfer or GMU
courses.
- From other institutions without a BS degree. Must satisfy all published BSEE and BSCpE Gen Ed requirements with transfer or GMU
courses.
- From other institutions, with a BS degree. Must take courses or have
specific transfer credit for: ECON 103, COMM 100 and ENGH/ENGL 302
and have at least 24 hours of non-technical course work by the time they graduate.
*VCCS=Virginia Community College System (i.e. NOVA, Germanna, J. Sargeant Reynolds, etc,
Community Colleges)
